Philanthropy
PNC and the PNC Foundation have long histories of strengthening and enriching the lives of our neighbors in communities in which we live and work. For decades, we have provided resources to seed ideas, foster development initiatives and encourage leadership in organizations where imagination and determination are at work enhancing people's lives every day.
As part of this support, we have placed special emphasis on providing children with the tools and experiences they need to grow up great. This commitment has resulted in millions of dollars and volunteer hours invested in helping children because PNC recognizes that the way children live today will affect the way we all live tomorrow.
To build upon this history of involvement, call others to action and make a meaningful, lasting impact, we are pleased to announce PNC Grow Up Great. This new, ten-year, $100 million investment will help prepare millions of children, from birth through age five, for school and life.
As a component of PNC Grow Up Great, the PNC Foundation is working with Head Start Programs in Delaware, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Kentucky, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania to establish PNC Grow Up Great Demonstration Projects. For this, the PNC Foundation provided grants of $20,000 to $50,000 for Head Start Demonstration Projects. These projects will stand as models of achievement in each of the eight domains of children's learning and development to learn from and grow.
PNC's selection of Head Start as an initial partner in supporting school readiness is based on the organization's long, successful history of addressing the developmental needs of the whole child, coupled with its special emphasis on volunteerism and uniform reach across the communities served by PNC. PNC hopes that access to additional funding, volunteerism and in-kind resources will enable Head Start to strengthen its existing programs and ultimately extend these services and learnings to all young children and caregivers in their communities.
